This is an example of a Howitzer test setup. It illustrates how an analog recorder can be used to collect the data shown in the figure at the bottom of this page. The data from the Model 31 recorder that was used in this test clearly shows the acceleration of the projectile in the gun barrel, the projectile leaving the gun sleeve, the impact with a wood target placed in front of the barrel, and subsequent impacts with two concrete walls. The velocity profile of the projectile can also be obtained by integrating the acceleration data file. |
